65km for 65 Roses

A few weeks ago I got a text from a friend:

Hey! I'm going to be walking or riding 65km, I want to raise money for cystic fibrosis

Cue the expected response from me of “sounds like fun! Want someone to join you?” It appears I still haven't learned to keep my mouth shut, instead of always getting myself involved in things.

After we quickly ran the figures and determined that spending 13 hours walking didn't sound like much fun, we quickly decided we would ride. Now I've ridden 100km before during the Around the Bay bike ride nearly 2 years ago, so I have an idea of what that distance feels like. Chere on the other hand, does not. However she's got two incredible traits which mean that on the day I know she will be fine:

  • She's fit (she completed a half marathon easily)
  • She refuses to give up

What I didn't expect was the level of interest from others. I mentioned it to a few friends at work, and suddenly we had another 3 riders. I'm a member of a cycling group on Facebook aimed at women cyclists on the Sunshine Coast, but unfortunately haven't had the chance to actually meet up with them to go for their group rides on Saturday mornings yet. Still, I thought I would post in the group that we were planning on doing this ride, and with a quick blink of an eye there were ladies who were keen to join us as well. Fantastic!

While Mario is grumbling at me for kind of taking over this whole thing (sorry Chere), I can't help but let my day job of being a Project Manager come out. I've since created a Facebook event and even an online registration form – yep, I've definitely taken over.

To be honest though, I'm really excited. It's going to be a great day. We will be cycling at 6am, back by 10am (hopefully earlier), followed up with a coffee and a raffle at Open House Kawana. I am seriously looking forward to it!

So if there's anyone out there who wants to join us, please do! It will be a great way to meet some new people, not to mention get a bit of exercise and enjoy the Sunshine Coast during the morning hours – by far my favourite time of the day. The sunrises are so beautiful!

If you're not interested in joining us, I would LOVE it if you would donate to the cause. The charity is very dear to Chere, and I'm sure there are many people out there that would appreciate it.

I look forward to posting tons of photos and videos!

Let me know your thoughts!
