52 in 52: Declutter a closet (aka get rid of the *shit*)

I’m not going to lie, declutter and cleaning out our cupboard was probably my most favourite one on my entire 52 in 52 list. My hubby is notorious for hanging onto things “in case”. I have those moments too, I’ll admit. But once it gets to a certain point I go insane, and I do a throw out.

That point has been approaching for the past 12 months.

Of course I would choose the hottest day in probably the last 12 months, but it needed to be done. I had timing on my side. We’re going to moving into our new house in about a month, which meant we were going to have to deal with this eventually. I pointed out that it would be good to just do the charity bin/rubbish tip runs now, instead of when we’re overwhelmed by the rest of the house move. Finally, he agreed.

Time flies when you’re early to bed (+ meet Rosie my vacuum cleaner)

It occurred to me today as I was making my way home that I really don’t get that much time to do things at night. Disclaimer – I don’t have kids so I really shouldn’t be complaining, and I’m not really, just making an observation.

For example, tonight I was at home by 6pm. Mario had dinner on the table by 6.15pm, and by 7pm I was cleaning up. Then began the chores and the list of things to do. Tonight I have completely pulled apart Rosie, our amazing robot vacuum cleaner, and given her a thorough do-over in cleaning her bits (sounds a bit rude doesn’t it). I’m now about to update my budget and bills and see how I’m tracking for the month. By the time I’ve finished that it will be about 8pm. I get half an hour to do something, then I’m in bed by 8.30am. It’s really not that much is it?

What a difference moving furniture makes

I came home from work yesterday to find the living room couch, a 5 piece 6 seater corner lounge, completely pulled apart. On further inspection, I found a whole new feature piece in the room formerly known as the living room. It was a bar!

In our house we had a second living room, which when we moved in discovered it had a corner tv unit that was impossible to remove. It seemed to be somehow mounted to the wall, and the boys couldn’t figure it out how to get rid of it. As we didn’t really have any intentions of using the room anyway, we put some couches in there and called it a day. We all lived in the other room, so it never bothered us.
