Breakfast at Crabapple Kitchen

Today I have been left to explore the city on my own, as both Jens and Julie had to work today. I felt their pain…actually, no I didn’t as I’m on holidays!! Woo!

After a lazy morning with a sleep in until 8am I rose, showered and made my way down the street to hunt down a breakfast cafe. And find I did! I found Crabapple Kitchen on Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn.

I am currently writing this from a table where I sit by myself, having just treated myself to some signature buttermilk pancakes which were simply divine. To say I am full would be an understatement. The softness of the pancakes combined with crunchy nut praline and baked apple was just perfect. It’s the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. The Campos coffee was also incredible, but unfortunately rest in the shadow of the pancakes.

The inside of the cafe has a very rustic feel. My table is made from wood with wrought iron legs, my seat simple a wooden crate with a cushion on top. Brick walls are complimented by lighting made from light bulbs, glass jars and long visible cords. The only plaster wall is filled with photos in frames of all sizes mixed together to make one long narrow wall feature. The lighting is low, the mood relaxed, and the people incredibly professional and attentive. My water glass has not been empty once.

It’s been blissful to just sit in a cafe, read my book and enjoy quality food. I might just be starting to embrace loneliness finally!

Now I’m off to continue exploring with some great suggestions from my sister. The day has started on a tremendous high, and I hope to continue the trend. I have no plans, and given that I’ve stated today is spontaneous day, anything could happen!
