End of a weekend, the end of an era

It’s Sunday night, I’m sitting in bed quickly typing this out before I try to get to bed asleep by 9pm.

This weekend went fast. We had a games night at my sister-in-law’s sister’s house, and today we were in Brisbane for my mother-in-law’s birthday. It was non-stop, and it felt like I blinked and it was over.

Much like the past 5 something years.

This coming week my son starts school, whaaaat?!

The era of daycare has ended, which is a blessing in disguise since it was so damn expensive. But also just a bit of a reality jolt that our little guy is growing up. This week he’ll begin prep, the year before grade 1. It’s his first year of “big school”, and the start of a 13-year journey of education. Of course, it could be more, it could be less, depending on his decisions when he’s older about either finishing early and working or graduating and heading to university.

This week begins the life of uniforms, packed lunches, mid-week laundry, and learning how to get stains out of clothes properly because it’s expensive to replace (unlike paint-stained daycare clothes where you just send them back in it next week to add to the stains).

Tonight I finished making a “first day” board, with the plan to take a photo of him every year on his first day of school. Well, at least for as many years as he’ll let me. Then we’ll put them together and watch the little guy grow up. It’ll be so fun!

Full disclosure, about halfway through I started hating life. But it got done, and now we get to use it. And because I flat-out refused to make another one after offering to do a second for a friend, we’re now sharing it. I’ll do another one, just….not today.

Well, time for me to go to bed. I promised myself I would be asleep every night this week by 9pm. Well, try at least – I’m already late tonight, whoops. Last week I had a lot of late nights, several after 11pm, and I felt the difference in my mental health and overall motivation levels.

This week I’m aiming for a week of good bedtimes, hydration, regular exercise, and good food choices. Baby steps, it doesn’t have to be perfect all week. A 1% improvement from last week is still an improvement.

So, goodnight! It’s nice to get back to blogging more regularly, even if it’s just a random check-in like tonight.

Let me know your thoughts!
