Back on the 1st of July I walked 10,000 steps. In a throwaway comment my friend challenged both of us to keep it up for the month. So we did.
Then the next month I had a step challenge to raise funds for breast cancer. I did that too.
Now, 83 days later and I’m still going strong with 10,000 steps a day!
It’s not been easy. With all the stuff going in life there have been some panic moments madly pacing the house to get the steps in by midnight. My closest call I only had about 5mins to spare. But it’s been great for keeping me moving and now I don’t want to break my streak! It’s been especially great when work has been crazy busy and I could have so easily have spent 14 hours at the desk not moving.
Time to up the ante
Previously I had the idea to keep adding a new habit every 40 days. I tried to give up chocolate and lollies and that failed dismally. I got stressed and I let myself emotionally eat. But I wasn’t discouraged from giving up altogether.
The thing is though, I’ve spent this year bouncing from one “quick fix” to another with my diet in an attempt to lose weight. On the plus side I’ve been much better with binging, it’s rare that happens now, but I haven’t actually *fixed anything. I’m still not losing weight and still not making great choices of food as a whole. Too many carbs, not enough proteins or greens.
So I’ve decided that I’m going to do the same thing I do all the time and be extreme. Because I’m dumb (read: awesome) like that.
The Challenge
I’ve been reading about my favourite blog author, Katie from Runs for Cookies, participate in a modified version of 75 Hard. Now she’s thrown out the challenge to her readers for Fall (my spring), and I’m in.
Here’s my list of what I’m going to do for 75 days (read her post for the rules):
- Follow a diet of my choosing
- Exercise for 60mins a day, minimum of 30mins outside (doesn’t have to be in one hit)
- Drink 2L of water a day
- Read 10 pages of a book every day or 10mins of an audio book (I’ve been getting audiobooks from the library via the app BorrowBox)
- Write a blog post every day
- Take a progress photo of myself every day (doesn’t have to be shared, but we’ll see what happens at the end of 75 days)
It begins Friday
I think on her post it was starting the 22nd, but I’m choosing to start it the Friday. That’s when I’ll have what I need for my diet.
So now that I’ve blogged it it has to happen right? Commitment! And I’ve even roped my husband and and some friends into doing their own!
See you Friday!
