Backyard dust bowl

When we moved into our house we always knew we would be redoing the backyard at some point. There were a few things that bothered us. Mostly, that it was on a slant with only a small amount of flat, usable ground. There was a random garden that jutted out of the middle of it as well. When we started pulling out the weeds that were there when we first moved in, we found so many random things in there – bird baths, lights etc. It was completely neglected.

In order to get it under control we knew there would have to be some major work. There would be excavators, and a lot of hard work. read more

House update: we get the keys and work begins

It’s been a crazy week this week, hence the lack of posts. On Wednesday we received the keys to our new house, and I guess you could say we moved in. And by moved in, I mean we brought a swag over. Yep, the first night we slept in a swag in the master bedroom.

Thursday was the Australia Day public holiday, so after a single night camp out, work immediately got under way.

The floors start to come up

First thing in the morning the in-laws drove up from Brisbane ready to lend a hand. They arrived shortly before 9am, and before you could blink they were into it. read more

House update: handover and flooring

I can’t believe how quickly the handover of the house has come up! Next week we get the keys and the renovation officially begins.

In the past few weeks it’s been a bit crazy! First up was an issue with Suncorp with the funds getting from one account to another. Thankfully that was sorted out after a day. Then we had to scramble to organise electricity so they could service the garage door. Finally we purchased the flooring, getting some from both the coast and Brisbane.  read more

5 random thoughts from the brain

I thought I’d share some thoughts that have been going round and round in this noggin’ of mine.

  • I’m probably more excited about getting my own garage spot in the house we just bought, than the house itself. I don’t know why, but suddenly there are so many cars on the streets around our house at the moment, and we only have a single car garage. Typically Mario would use it, but even he’s been parking on the street lately…I guess he’s been enjoying being able to walk around the garage easily? The best thing about the new house is the garage door is automatic too…and yes I’m aware that these have been out for a long time, but I’ve never lived anywhere that I had my spot, with buttons to push! Woohoo!
  • I tried to reinstall my theme this morning to fix issues, and instead broke it more. Now the featured images are missing from the front page, and the category pages are still broken. I’m not going to let this get the best of me though dammit *shakes fist*
  • I’ve got an awesome post I’m working on to share. It’s one I’ve been discussing with friends for about 2 years now….seriously. I’ll give you a hint, it makes a game out of the mundane. I hope you’ll love it.
  • I’ve jammed my neck again so I’m seeing the chiro this morning. I’m hoping it’s the reason why it hurts to open my mouth up completely – spare the rude jokes *wink*. I haven’t been able to open my jaw properly for a couple of days without holding my cheek. Fingers crossed that sorts it out.
  • The gym is so boring to run in compared to the outdoors! As I’m seeing the chiro this morning I didn’t want to put my back under any stress so I’m heading to the gym tonight after work instead, but running on the treadmill is so monotonous. They need to invent a treadmill that works with VR – I would totally be in for that!

Queen of my own new castle

    We bought a house!!

And when we bought it, I hadn’t even seen it! But I’ll explain that shortly.

We knew we wanted to start looking after we got married last year, so we started hunting around once we got back from our honeymoon. I haven’t ever bought a property before (where we live right now Mario bought when he was in his mid-20’s), so this was all new to me. I’m a housemate by trade. So when we decided we wanted to start looking around, I hit the websites surfing around, and was quickly swept up in some dream houses before realising there’s such a thing called budget.  read more
