Sunday 26th January

Ah, Australia Day. The day of the bogan. You can see my thoughts about Australia Day here. I had a great day though, listening to the Hottest 100 (wahoo Vance Joy taking it out with Riptide) and having some drinks. I was classy as usual, busting out the drinking glasses with Bel and drinking some Belgria (Bel's sangria) through straw wrapping around my eyeballs. It was a bit strange, it was quite cold! We also busted out the board games in that we played Bunnings Monopoly and Jenga, and had loads of fun. Great day! read more

Sunday 19th January

Mario's first time ever at the Big Day Out! He's actually never been to any music concert or festival ever, except for that one time on the Sunshine Coast that he saw something something near Noosa. I think. It was the something Cartel, every time he says their name I just think of the mafia. If he told me he saw the mafia jamming one day that would be cool!

We had a great day, and saw acts like Grouplove, Bliss n Eso, Pez, Kingswood (for a split second), many others, and also the great Pearl Jam. Vitalogy was my first ever CD that I bought for myself and I still love it to this day. It was a dream to finally see them. My only regret was that i had to leave early because we had to drive 2 hours back to the Sunshine Coast to get ready for work the next day, and we're sensible kids. As you can see in the photo above we're already buggered, and this was about 40mins before we left. True to form, I was super unlucky in that it meant I missed hearing Pearl Jam sing “Alive”, one of my favourite songs. Gutted. But overall a good day, and Mario even enjoyed some of the music he heard! read more

Sunday 12th January

Today I got to witness two of my friends celebrate their relationship by formalising their love with a commitment ceremony. I wish with all my heart I could say they got married, but unfortunately the politicians in this country are still far too ignorant to realise that there's no harm in allowing same sex marriage. I won't rant more about this, but I think it just plain sucks. Anyways, it was an absolutely amazing and wonderful day, and I'm honoured to have taken part by attending a wedding for the first time in pants and sneakers – being on the “groom” side of a bridal party rocks! read more

Sunday 5th January

As part of the 52 in 52, every Sunday is going to be a self portrait, aka “selfie”. This was the first of the year, and won't be my finest. After having a sugar detox for 5 days, on this day I had my first taste of sugar again, and it hit me hard. I'd had a huge lunch, some birthday cake and then crashed. I had to get Mario to drive the car back home from Brisbane (I could barely stay awake in the car) and promptly passed out on the couch. I tried some of my face, but trust me, NO ONE needed to see that. I looked and felt terrible. read more

Photos from the week ending 4th January

Part of my 52 in 52 list for 2014 is to take a photo a day. Each Sunday I plan on posting photos from the week before.

Wednesday 1st January Mario (the nickname for my boyfriend due to his Italian heritage) and I enjoyed a sleep in after a party at his friend's place the night before. We were in the middle of a two week holiday, and really struggling to find some time to actually relax. New Year's Day, normally reserved for coping with hangovers, ended up being the first day we relaxed. We had only indulged in a few drinks the night before, nothing heavy, and thus woke up fresh. We went to the markets in the morning, returned home and spent an hour in the garden. We ended up pulling out all the mint that had taken over lots of sections, filling a HUGE rubbish bag with it. We kept a small portion for some fruit smoothies, and the rest got binned. The crazy part is that it will all be back within 3 months.

Thursday 2nd January

One of my favourite people in the world had messaged me a couple of days earlier to see if Mario and I were free for dinner, so we organised it for the Thursday night. We enjoyed a bbq dinner made by Mario including an amazing paleo chocolate tart (sidenote – I'm now sugar free for the year, conditions apply and will be blogged later). It was great to see my friends, since they live down in one of the southern states of Australia, which means I don't get to see them as much as I would like. read more
