Happy Australia Day!

Ah, Australia Day. The day when we all release our inner bogans, with Australian flag temporary tattoos, board shorts, and top hats. The day when we all adopt the worst fashion sense possible in the name of being Australian. The day of the great bbq, as there is rarely a household currently enjoying a sausage … Read more

Shoulder blow out with 2 weeks until the triathlon

Not this weekend but next weekend I will be participating in my first ever triathlon. I'm a little bit excited. And scared. But mostly excited. I was unfortunate to sustain an injury last week to my left shoulder. Half an hour after my morning boot camp session it started to feel a bit niggly, and … Read more

Sunday 12th January Today I got to witness two of my friends celebrate their relationship by formalising their love with a commitment ceremony. Good riddance to afternoon sugar cravings!

One of my 52 in 52 items this year was to give up chocolates and sweets containing processed sugar for the entire year, exceptions being “events” like birthdays, weddings etc.

Amazingly, it's been easier than I thought.

The point of this exercise was to quit my sugar addiction in a way that's sustainable. I mean, let's be real here, when it comes to cooking and nutrition I'm lazy. Really lazy. At the start of this year, the extent of my addiction was back to the point that I could easily smash an entire container of m & m's (the big bags) and a pack of tim tams in a matter of minutes, and yet still want something else. It was not uncommon for me to visit the local grocer in the afternoon and buy a bag of glucose lollies and a bar/block of chocolate. I would finish it all by myself in my office, not tell anyone what I was eating, and hope that no one would ask questions. No wonder that despite all the exercise I did I still found myself with a Kim Kardashian butt, and clearly not because of genetics.

Sunday 5th January As part of the 52 in 52, every Sunday is going to be a self portrait, aka “selfie”. This was the first of the year, and won't be my finest. After having a sugar detox for 5 days, on this day I had my first taste of sugar again, and it hit … Read more
